A quick status update on our work to implement a native Vulkan renderer for the SilverLining Sky, 3D Cloud, and Weather SDK!

So far we’re pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it is going – we’ve only been at it for a couple of months now, but already we have the sky and cumulus clouds rendering natively in Vulkan! It’s already looking like SilverLining!
And although it’s too soon to really talk about performance, a close look at this screenshot is quite promising – we’re getting around 1000 FPS with cumulus clouds on a modest GTX1080 card already.

And if you look really closely, you’ll see there are some anomalies for us to address – as well as all of the other cloud types and special effects SilverLining supports. That “long tail” of features will certainly take some time, but it doesn’t take away from our excitement that this project is achievable.

Stay tuned for further updates on our progress toward including SilverLining’s skies and clouds in your Vulkan or VulkanSceneGraph-based applications.
